What should have been an ordinary morning after a social outing ended in tragedy for 25-year-old Ibrahim Mbaya, a young graduate of the University of Jos whose life was cut short over an allegation that remains under police investigation. Known popularly as "Ibee" within Plateau State's fashion and entertainment community, Mbaya was described by peers as a peaceful and hardworking model determined to build a future despite processing outstanding academic issues at his alma mater.

According to accounts gathered, the incident began after Mbaya attended a social event on campus and decided to spend the night at a friend's off-campus apartment behind the City of David area. By the following morning, the atmosphere shifted when his friend informed him that an iPhone had gone missing, allegedly insisting Mbaya was the prime suspect as they were the only occupants of the room.

Witnesses stated that although Mbaya initially left the apartment, he returned after receiving a telephone call from the friend asking him to explain himself. Instead of finding an opportunity to clear his name, he allegedly walked into a violent confrontation where a group of young men subjected him to hours of torture. The assault reportedly continued until Mbaya became unconscious, and a nurse invited to the scene confirmed he had passed away.

The Plateau State Police Command has moved swiftly to address the homicide, confirming the arrest of three suspects: Rinji Daniel Fwanji, Emmanuel Newyear, and Nensemka Fwanji. The authorities were alerted to the situation by a concerned citizen who reported that an unconscious man had been brought to the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) under suspicious circumstances late on July 26.
