The National Executive Council of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria has appointed a three-member caretaker committee led by Patrick Omorodion to resolve chapter disputes and organize fresh elections in Lagos State.

The National Executive Council (NEC) of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has appointed Patrick Omorodion of Vanguard newspaper to head a three-man caretaker committee for its Lagos State chapter. The committee has been given a three-month mandate to restore stability and facilitate a credible electoral process.
Other members of the committee are Oni Afolabi of Sure FM, who will serve as Secretary, and Anulika Menanya of the Voice of Nigeria. Their appointments take immediate effect, according to a letter dated October 11 and signed by SWAN National Secretary, Ikenna Okonkwo.
SWAN National President, Isaiah Benjamin, noted that Omorodion’s appointment was informed by his professional standing and ability to steer the chapter through a transitional period.
This appointment recognises Omorodion's experience and capacity to provide steady leadership during a critical period for the Lagos State chapter.

The committee is tasked with reconciling members of the Lagos chapter and working in concert with the National Secretariat to verify and update the membership register ahead of the elections. It has also been mandated to recover, secure, and document all assets belonging to the Lagos State chapter.
To ensure a transparent electoral outcome, the caretaker team will facilitate the establishment of the Lagos State SWAN Electoral Committee (SWANECO) in strict compliance with the association’s statutes, while coordinating logistics for a free and fair poll.
The committee is further expected to interface with relevant stakeholders to rebuild confidence across the membership and guarantee a peaceful transition to an elected executive council.
Benjamin urged the committee members to execute their duties diligently and impartially, assuring them of the complete backing of the national leadership throughout their three-month tenure.
