UNILAG event renews calls for stronger Nigeria-Russia ties
Stakeholders at a Russia-Africa cultural event held at the University of Lagos, UNILAG, have called for stronger educational, cultural and economic ties between Nigeria and Russia, highlighting language acquisition as a key driver of diplomacy, international business and global cooperation. The event, organised by the Faculty of European Languages, featured a photo exhibition, documentary screenings, cultural performances and discussions on Africa-Russia relations.

Speaking at the programme, Head of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, Elizabeth Ajetunmobi, urged students studying Russian to embrace confidence, continuous learning and effective communication, adding that language learners could play vital roles as future diplomats, translators and international business professionals.

Documentary highlights decades of Africa-Russia cooperation
Also speaking, Dr Joshua Oranbiyi said the documentary highlighted decades of cooperation between Africa and Russia and called for stronger partnerships focused on education, local development and mutual growth.

Russian guest Caleb Vasiliev praised the students' performances and the hospitality shown during the event, describing the warmth of the gathering as one of the highlights of his visit.

The event, supported by the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Nigeria, the University of Lagos and the Russian Language Learning Center, also featured cultural displays by students and renewed calls for more academic exchanges and collaborations between Nigeria and Russia.
