Ogun State police have apprehended one suspect and launched a manhunt for an accomplice following the alleged gang-rape of a teenager in Ijebu-Igbo. Authorities have reaffirmed a zero-tolerance policy for gender-based violence as the victim receives medical care.

Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested 20-year-old Ayomide Kamula in connection with the alleged gang-rape of a 19-year-old woman. The incident reportedly took place in the Oke Sopen area of Ijebu-Igbo, located within the Ijebu North Local Government Area of the state.
The matter was brought to official attention when the victim’s mother filed a report at the Ijebu-Igbo Divisional Police Station on Tuesday, September 1, at approximately 10:10 a.m. According to police records, the assault occurred on August 30, 2026, at the victim’s residence in Odo Idi Scale.
Following the report, police operatives immediately moved to secure the scene of the alleged crime. This action was taken to preserve potential evidence and begin the preliminary phase of the investigation. The victim was subsequently transported to a General Hospital for medical examination and necessary care, supported by a formal Police Medical Form.

Strategic efforts by the command led to the swift apprehension of one of the primary suspects. Ayomide Kamula is currently in police custody, where he is undergoing interrogation regarding his involvement in the incident.
Following preliminary inquiries, operatives successfully tracked down and arrested one suspect, identified as Ayomide Kamula, ‘m’, aged 20.

The command noted that the investigation is ongoing, and the suspect remains detained as officers gather more details surrounding the assault. The case is slated for transfer to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) at Eleweran, Abeokuta, to ensure a comprehensive legal process and eventual prosecution.
While one suspect is in custody, the Ogun State Police Command has officially declared a manhunt for a second individual allegedly involved in the crime. The suspect, identified as Boye Balogun, reportedly fled the scene following the incident and remains at large.

Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police for Ogun State, CP Bode Ojajuni, condemned the act in strong terms. He categorized sexual and gender-based violence as an "egregious crime" that undermines the safety and dignity of citizens, stating that such actions will not be tolerated under his watch.
Ojajuni emphasized the command's commitment to a zero-tolerance policy regarding sexual offences. He assured both the victim's family and the general public that the ongoing investigation would be handled with the highest level of discretion and thoroughness.
The Commissioner further pledged that the police would utilize all available resources to ensure the fleeing suspect is brought to justice, reinforcing the command's dedication to maintaining law and order within the state.
