Authorities in Sokoto State have detained several suspects following the alleged gang-rape and death of Fatima Bizo in Yarume village. The incident has sparked intense community outrage and urgent calls for a transparent investigation into the 27-year-old's passing.

Concern has gripped Yarume village in Wamakko Local Government Area of Sokoto State following the alleged gang rape and death of a 27-year-old woman, Fatima Bizo. The Sokoto State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of several youths suspected to be connected with the incident, which has left the local community in shock.
Bizo’s death has sparked widespread anger and calls for justice, amid allegations that she was sexually assaulted before she died. Sources in the community alleged that the suspects subjected the deceased to sexual assault and subsequently used a rope to tie her. Following the incident, Bizo was buried according to Islamic rites.
Despite the gravity of the allegations, the exact circumstances surrounding her death remained unclear as of yesterday. The police have officially commenced a comprehensive investigation to unravel the sequence of events and determine the cause of death.
Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Sokoto State Command, DSP Ahmad Rufai, stated that the suspects had been arrested and are currently detained at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). The move to the CID signifies the transition of the case to a formal investigative phase.
Rufai confirmed that the suspects are undergoing interrogation, stressing that the police would establish the facts surrounding the woman’s death before taking appropriate legal action. The command is focusing on forensic and testimonial evidence to build a clear picture of the night of the incident.
