Sanuth, a former Director of Sanitation Services, is expected to take over the agency as concerns over refuse collection and environmental sanitation persist across Lagos.

Dr Hassan Sanuth has reportedly been appointed as the new Managing Director of the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) following reports that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu asked the incumbent, Dr Muyiwa Gbadegesin, to resign amid persistent refuse accumulation across Lagos State.
The reported development comes amid concerns over waste management and the accumulation of refuse in parts of the state, raising questions about the effectiveness of existing sanitation measures.
According to media reports, Sanuth, who previously served as Director of Sanitation Services at the Lagos State Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources, is expected to take over the leadership of the agency responsible for managing waste collection and disposal across the state.
Sanuth reportedly holds a PhD in Environmental Microbiology and has more than 23 years of public service experience in environmental management.
His reported appointment comes as the state continues to face waste disposal challenges, with effective refuse collection and environmental sanitation remaining critical to public health and the maintenance of a clean urban environment.
LAWMA is responsible for coordinating waste management operations across Lagos, including refuse collection, transportation and disposal, as well as supporting the state's environmental sanitation initiatives.
However, as of the time of filing this report, the Lagos State Government had not officially confirmed Sanuth's reported appointment or issued an official statement on Gbadegesin's position.
Further details on the reported leadership change and any plans to address the state's waste management challenges were not immediately available.
