Release of Victims in Awka

The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the release and safe return of Chief J. J. Ezeokafor and a Reverend Sister who were abducted by armed criminals at Ifite-Awka. Ezeokafor, a prominent businessman and father of popular socialite Jowizaza, was seized in the early hours of Tuesday, August 4, shortly after leaving his residence for a prayer ground.

The development has brought significant relief to the family and residents of the state capital. The abduction had previously heightened concerns regarding the activities of armed gangs and the safety of citizens in the Awka area.

Police Investigation and Intelligence Gathering

Following the safe return of the victims, the police have initiated protocols to establish the exact circumstances surrounding their release. SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Anambra Command, indicated that the victims are being engaged to provide information that could lead to the arrest of their captors.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, has commended the return of the victims but maintained that the case remains active. He has directed security operatives to intensify intelligence-led operations to ensure those responsible do not escape justice.

Multi-Agency Manhunt and Security Strategy

A renewed security operation has been launched involving a multi-agency task force. This collaborative effort includes the Nigeria Police, Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigerian Military, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC). Local security groups, including the Agunechemba Security Operatives, are also part of the intensified search for the criminal network.

The command stated that these measures are aimed at dismantling criminal cells and preventing future attacks on residents. The police spokesperson emphasized that the manhunt will continue until the perpetrators are brought to book, stressing the command's commitment to restoring absolute peace to the state.
