The Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) has partnered with the Impact Initiative for Youth Mentorship to combat youth criminality through leadership development and community safety programs.

The Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex, Alagbon, Lagos, has pledged a stronger collaboration with the Impact Initiative for Youth Mentorship (IIYM) to tackle youth vulnerability to crime. The partnership focuses on mentorship, leadership development, and fostering responsible citizenship among young Nigerians.
The Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) in charge of the FCID Annex, AIG Simeon U. Akpanudom, confirmed this commitment during a courtesy visit from an IIYM delegation led by Mr. Victor Cletus Mfon. The engagement sought to align the police leadership’s counsel with the organization’s programs, which are designed to guide young people away from negative influences and criminal behavior.

During the visit, Mr. Mfon highlighted that IIYM has been active for nine years, focusing on identifying and nurturing the talents and leadership potential of young people. The organization places a high priority on African leadership and empowering the youth to become positive contributors to national development.
Mfon emphasized that effective mentorship has become increasingly critical in the current environment. He noted that inadequate guidance and limited access to positive role models often leave young people exposed to social vices and criminality. He expressed appreciation for the professional leadership at the FCID Annex and sought the AIG’s continued mentorship for the organization’s vision.
The delegation formally invited AIG Akpanudom to serve as the Special Guest of Honour and Honouree at the 9th Impact Leadership Conference & Awards. The event is scheduled to take place on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at the Oriental Hotel & Suites in Victoria Island, Lagos.

Responding to the invitation, AIG Akpanudom described the initiative as “thoughtful, timely and noble.” He stated that translating the vision of youth development into reality requires strategic planning and collective effort from all stakeholders. He further noted that the Nigeria desired by its citizens must be built by equipping young people to be responsible leaders and active participants in nation-building.
Mrs. Betty Jobaido, IIYM’s Head of Operations, explained that the organization provides professional counseling services on a pro-bono basis to young people and remote communities. These programs are conducted in educational institutions to build resilience and promote positive values, thereby reducing the vulnerability of students to crime and other negative influences.
Jobaido also emphasized the necessity of collaboration with the police regarding security arrangements for programs involving visiting diplomats and international guests. She noted that effective cooperation would ensure the safety and success of these high-level engagements. The FCID Annex leadership reaffirmed its commitment to such strategic partnerships to promote community safety and youth empowerment.
