Death of nursing student: Police remand 'Odogwu Asaba' amid rape allegations

Detention of Content Creator
A popular Asaba-based content creator, known as 'Odogwu Asaba', has been remanded by the police as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the death of a 20-year-old nursing student, Favour Agbro. The victim reportedly died by suicide after accusing the 44-year-old suspect of rape.
The case has sparked widespread outrage on social media, with many Nigerians demanding a thorough investigation and justice for the deceased. According to accounts circulating online, the content creator allegedly invited Agbro to Asaba, Delta State, under the pretext of training her on how to monetise social media content.

Allegations of Assault and Captivity
Reports suggest that upon arriving at the agreed location, the nursing student discovered the venue was a hotel and initially declined to enter. However, she was allegedly persuaded to go inside. The allegations further claim that she was subsequently sexually assaulted, held against her will for several days, and denied food during the period.
The victim later contacted her twin sister and mother, informing them that she had been assaulted and was bleeding heavily. Her family reportedly sent her transport fare to enable her return home. Following her return, Agbro became severely traumatised and depressed.

Tragic Aftermath and Public Reaction
Sources claimed the victim confided in another influencer about the alleged incident but was discouraged after being told that the suspect was influential and could not easily be brought to justice. The nursing student subsequently died after allegedly ingesting a poisonous substance and has since been buried.
The allegations have continued to generate public reactions, with advocacy groups calling for a comprehensive investigation into both the alleged sexual assault and the circumstances leading to her death. There have also been calls for the exhumation of the deceased's body as part of the ongoing investigation, although authorities have yet to officially confirm if this step will be taken.
Status of the Investigation
Social media posts further alleged that the suspect approached the deceased's family in an attempt to seek forgiveness and offer compensation, although this claim has not been independently verified by authorities. The Delta State Police Command has yet to release the official outcome of its investigation.
As of the time of filing this report, 'Odogwu Asaba' remains in police custody. Authorities have urged members of the public to allow the investigation to run its course, noting that under Nigerian law, the suspect is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty by a court of competent jurisdiction.
