Army investigates soldiers seen in viral Peller, Jarvis wedding videos

The Nigerian Army has commenced a full-scale investigation into the alleged unauthorised deployment of military personnel to a private celebrity wedding in Lagos, following the arrest of two serving soldiers linked to the incident. The development comes amid growing scrutiny over the appearance of uniformed soldiers at the high-profile wedding of Nigerian content creator Habeeb Hamzat, popularly known as Peller, and TikTok personality Jarvis, held in Lekki over the weekend.
Sources confirmed that the two soldiers were arrested on Tuesday after credible intelligence reportedly linked them to the unauthorised deployment. The personnel were identified as 23NA/85/10007 Private Onasanya Ifeoluwa and 23NA/85/7885 Private Ukpai Onyinyechi, both attached to the 81 Division Medical Services and Hospital (81DMSH), Obalende, Lagos.
A military source disclosed that preliminary investigations were already underway to determine the extent of the soldiers' involvement and whether other personnel participated in the alleged illegal deployment. The authorities are working to establish if the breach involved a wider network of personnel beyond those already in custody.

The investigation followed widespread circulation of videos from the wedding on social media, showing uniformed military personnel providing security and crowd control at the event. One of the viral videos allegedly captured a soldier escorting a social media personality through the crowded venue, triggering public reactions and raising concerns over the deployment of military personnel to private social functions.
The wedding, attended by entertainers, influencers, and other content creators from across the country, had generated significant online attention before the controversy surrounding the presence of soldiers overshadowed the celebration. The incident has also renewed concerns about compliance with military regulations governing the deployment of personnel.
The Nigerian Army has consistently maintained that serving personnel are prohibited from undertaking unauthorised private security duties or participating in deployments outside official military assignments without the necessary approval. This incident is viewed as a potential violation of standing orders regarding the professional conduct of soldiers.
The outcome of the ongoing investigation is expected to determine whether the deployment violated extant military regulations and whether further disciplinary measures will be taken against any personnel found culpable. The military leadership remains focused on maintaining the integrity of the institution and ensuring personnel adhere to official protocols.
