Chairman Saliu Renews Education Push at 2026 Children's Day Celebration

The Executive Chairman of Apapa-Iganmu LCDA, Jimoh Olawale Saliu, has reaffirmed his administration's commitment to education-driven development, unveiling fresh interventions aimed at strengthening learning outcomes and moral discipline across schools in the council area. Saliu made the pledge during the 2026 Children's Day celebration held at Metropolitan Nursery and Primary School, Orile, Lagos, where he charged pupils to take responsibility for their choices and remain focused on building a productive future.

"My Destiny… My Decision" - Chairman Charges Pupils to Choose Wisely

Speaking on the celebration's theme - "My Destiny… My Decision" - Saliu said the trajectory of every child's life would ultimately be determined by the decisions they make today, particularly in the areas of education, discipline and personal conduct.

Dream big, work hard, remain focused and always make positive decisions. Say no to cultism, drug abuse, examination malpractice, cybercrime, violence and all forms of negative behaviour that can derail your future.

— Jimoh Olawale Saliu, Executive Chairman, Apapa-Iganmu LCDA

Highlighting ongoing reforms, Saliu disclosed that his administration had introduced a first-of-its-kind Summer Class programme within the LCDA to keep students academically engaged during long vacations. The council has also distributed educational materials to thousands of pupils, provided GCE and JAMB forms to outstanding students, organised free preparatory classes and offered transport fare support for daily commutes. Several indigent students have also benefited from school fees assistance to ensure no child is denied access to education due to financial hardship.

We have paid school fees for numerous indigent students of Apapa-Iganmu LCDA so that no child is left behind due to lack of funds.

POCACOV Partnership to Intensify Anti-Cultism Campaigns

In a bid to strengthen advocacy against social vices, Saliu announced a strategic collaboration between the council and the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices, POCACOV, aimed at intensifying awareness campaigns against drug abuse, cultism, violence and other anti-social behaviours among young people.

As we celebrate today, let us all renew our commitment to protecting the rights of every child and providing them with opportunities to excel.

The council boss commended parents, teachers and caregivers for their sacrifices in raising responsible children despite prevailing socio-economic challenges, describing their contributions as critical to nation-building. He called on residents and stakeholders to strengthen their commitment to protecting children's rights and creating enabling environments for young people to thrive. The event attracted pupils, students, teachers, parents, guardians, community leaders and government officials who gathered to mark Children's Day with a message of discipline, education and responsible citizenship.
