The University of Ibadan's Students' Union Government has confirmed that a 300-level Law student, Tomisin, was abducted while returning from a Scripture Union retreat in Imo State, as the university and security agencies intensify efforts to secure her release.

The University of Ibadan's Students' Union Government has confirmed that a 300-level Law student, Tomisin, was abducted while returning from a Scripture Union retreat in Imo State, as the university and security agencies intensify efforts to secure her release.

UI Confirms Abduction of 300-Level Law Student

There is growing anxiety at the University of Ibadan, UI, following the abduction of a 300-level Law student, identified simply as Tomisin, whom the Students' Union Government, SUG, has confirmed missing. In a statement issued by SUG President, Comrade Temidayo Adeboye, the union said Tomisin was abducted while returning from a religious retreat organised by the Scripture Union Student Fellowship alongside its National General Director, Engr. Uwem Cosmos, and eight others.

Tomisin is the only UI student affected in the incident. We have initiated the necessary engagements to ascertain the facts surrounding the situation and are working with relevant stakeholders to ensure her safe return.

The union dismissed reports alleging that eight UI students were missing, clarifying that only Tomisin remains unaccounted for. She is said to be the National Secretary of the Scripture Union Student Fellowship, Nigeria, and Vice-President of the UI chapter.

Contact Lost on the Way Back From Imo State Conference

According to reports, contact with the victim was lost while returning from the Scripture Union National Conference held at the Camp of Faith, Okigwe, Imo State. Concern heightened after she failed to sit for her faculty examinations on Monday and Tuesday.

The Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Ademola Lewis, confirmed awareness of the incident, noting that the university had not been formally informed about the trip. He added that efforts were ongoing to secure the student's release and urged members of the university community to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information. Meanwhile, security agencies and relevant religious bodies have been engaged as search efforts intensify to trace the missing student.
