The Nigeria Police Force is convening senior officers for a strategic retreat in Owerri to develop a comprehensive security roadmap for the 2027 General Elections. The conference aims to integrate digital technology and intelligence-led policing to safeguard voters and electoral integrity.

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) is set to convene its senior officers in Owerri, Imo State, for a strategic conference aimed at developing a comprehensive security roadmap for the 2027 General Elections. This initiative represents a proactive step by the Force to address the complexities of electoral security well ahead of the national polls.
The sixth edition of the Conference and Retreat for Senior Police Officers (CARSPO 2026), scheduled for September 21 to 23, will bring together Commissioners of Police and officers of higher ranks, policing experts, and other relevant stakeholders. Organized in conjunction with Lenders Consult International, the event is themed to address the effective management of security during the upcoming electoral cycle.
According to a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, the conference is expected to provide a platform for senior police officers to examine contemporary security threats associated with elections. The objective is to develop practical measures that strengthen the Force’s operational readiness and intelligence gathering capabilities.

Deliberations during the retreat will focus on intelligence-led policing, police-community partnerships, and the adoption of digital technologies, including Artificial Intelligence. The strategies developed will cover various stages of the electoral process, including activities before, during, and after the elections. This engagement is designed to strengthen the capacity of the police to manage security challenges effectively through modern, technology-driven approaches.
A major focus of the conference will be the protection of voters, electoral personnel, candidates, and electoral materials. By developing a coordinated roadmap, the NPF expects to improve its ability to anticipate emerging threats and enhance collaboration with communities and other stakeholders involved in the electoral process.
The NPF noted that the increasing role of digital technologies in contemporary policing would be a central part of the strategic discussions. As political activities for the 2027 General Elections are expected to intensify, the Force remains committed to strengthening strategic leadership and professionalism to provide a peaceful and secure environment for the Nigerian public.
